Today we’re talking about how to determine which credit dispute letter to use on round 1 for credit sweeps to the credit bureaus and it really all comes down to WHAT it is that you’re disputing. I give a few different examples, such as a 3rd party collection using the validation of debt method, or a charge-off using factual disputes. One of the ways to determine how to dispute something is to first look at the type of the account (i.e. collection or charge-off), and then who will be the one to remove it (i.e. collector or credit bureau). This should give you an idea of whether you would want to use factual disputes OR whether you would want to attempt a different tactic.
You can remove a 3rd-party collection, such as a medical collection, by first disputing with the collection agency and then 15-30 days later sending a letter to the credit bureaus in an attempt to get them to remove it for failure to prove ownership of the account.
While there are many different methods I use, factual disputes are the most common and normally, the only exception would be a medical collection, utility collection, apartment collection or when I dispute directly with the creditor under section 623.
